Sander de Jong (tenor) is born in 1993 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Sander started singing in 2002 as a boy soprano at the Martini Boys Choir and in 2008 he joined the men’s group of the Roden Boys Choir as a tenor, both conducted by Rintje te Wies. From 2008 until 2011 Sander was a preparatory year student of the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam where he studied with the teacher Frans Huijts. At the same time he followed piano and music-theory lessons at the Ferwerda Academie.
In 2011 Sander was awarded with the first prize at the Prinses Christina Concours in Groningen. He had the honour to make concerttours to Tunesia (2012) and the USA/Canada (2015) on invitation of this same Prinses Christina Concours.
Next to Sander’s big passion for art songs and giving liedrecitals, Sander is also an active oratorio singer having sung solo partsin various masses of Schubert and Haydn, Elias from Mendelssohn, Crucifixion by Stainer, and several cantatas and motets by Mendelssohn, Bach, Buxtehude, Schein, and Schütz. He has also been part of professional choirs like the Netherlands Bach Society and the New Dutch Vocal Ensemble.
In the field of opera Sander has sung the roles of Satire in the youth opera Platée by operacompany Transparant in Antwerp, Bastien in Mozart’s opera Bastien und Bastienne, Antoine in the rediscovered Frisian opera Keapmanskeunsten and the role of Itulbo in Bellini's opera Il Pirata. In June 2018 he sang the role of Oronte in Händel's opera Alcina at the HfMT Hamburg. Furthermore Sander will sing Matteo Borsa in Verdi's opera Rigoletto at the Wernigerode Schlossfestspiele in August 2018. And in Oktober 2018 he will sing the role of Einsiedel in Hartmann's opera Simplicius Simplicissimus again at the HfMT Hamburg.
Sander has followed masterclasses of Dame Emma Kirkby, Ira Siff, Alexander Oliver, and Marcel Reijans. From 2011 Sander studied under the guidance of Professor Pierre Mak and coach David Bollen at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where he finished his studies in June 2016 with a 'very good'. Currently Sander studies in the Opera Master of the Hochschule für Musik and Theater Hamburg in the class of Professor Jörn Dopfer.
